Today I need to rest, I overdid it yesterday, having underdone.... is that a word?.... anyway, I haven't been active for long enough, to then do loads in a day, I am now very tired, and achy.

That said my brain and my fingers work just fine (giggidy), so I figure I would write a bit.

I posted a video on TikTok explaining to a small extent my disdain for generative AI, now I am very clear on this, there is dangerous AI, and there is fair AI.

Fair AI examples: spell checker, grammar checker, Maps, circle to search, auto generated captioning, algorithmic shuffle on music sites.

These and others use, what I will refer to as, assistive AI, they work within a set of parameters, they don't create something, they don't do the work for you, they work to enable some level of individual thought, a gentle nudge of information, but never a 'thinking for you' approach.

They also have existed for a long time, and generally are useful in a practical sense, to drill further into my point, Maps, be it google or whoever, on phone or whatever, use a form of Assistive AI, where they take map data and KNOWN ROUTES and translate these to a traveller in a way they can understand.

Generative AI includes: ChatGPT, Grok and others.

These will have access to server farms, they take examples from data that has been fed into them, collate it, and on request create something 'new'.

This 'new' content raises a tonne of questions over the value of human creativeness, the individuality of art, the reality of photos, news, videos, film. Every creative artform is at risk because of Generative AI (often abbreviated to GenAI).

But more then that, there is a battle for our very souls here.

More and more GenAI is being used as a way of 'creating' pornographic videos and images of non-consenting women, and children.

This is alarming, disturbing, and frankly disgusting. We see it in the news, we see it in the social media conversations, there is so much to unpack, but adversely so little - we as human beings need to protect children from monsters, and the fact GenAI is ALLOWED to complete these requests is abhorrent, however:

The content needed to exist to be fed into it in the first place.

Think about that. The GenAI platforms needed that content to come from somewhere.

I think the most disturbing thing about this is the following:


That a campaign called 'Stop It Now' exists, that this can be part of our conversation in 2026, is grotesque, vile.

I am a 40 something year old man, who has a step son, a (soon-to-be) daughter in law, and friends with children, my desire to protect these people in my life stems from a want to keep people safe, do the best for others, I have seen close friends children grow up, and become strong young adults, and yet...

There are monsters out there.

Real monsters. And that frightens me.

One day I might be a grandfather, and I PROMISE you, if someone did something like this with GenAI to my grandchild, I would skin them alive.

How this is a thing, it makes my skin crawl.

Stop it now.

Mercy

The last couple of days have been something of a no-show from me, I have had some issues with my sleep pattern and this has led to me being lethargic, disheartened, tired. More so then usual. But I wanted to take a moment to talk about something that has been rattling around in my brain for the last several days - but to discuss it, I need to share the crux of what started me on this trail. Days Before The World Wept

I don't think this is news, but everything is a bit messed up right now, the world seems on the precipice of the end of times. Funnily for many people this might actually be a relief, finally no more tax returns! No more stubbing our toes! we wont' have toes!!! Of course for some it is a dark and depressing time, to quote the yoot of the day; it's giving apocalypse. But please, hold the zombies or cannibalism, I cannot possibly taste good.
